Sometimes rad opportunities come up!
Every year, Blue Sky runs a year long exhibit with work from 50ish photographers. The works are each displayed in a dedicated flat file drawer. For the 2020-2021 exhibit, I submitted 10 photos of non-cis-men skaters and an accompanying artist statement explaining the project. It pretty well sums up my current stance on feminism in the skate scene.
Portland journalist, Jordan Hernandez, wrote this amazing article for Oregon Humanities about female skateboarders and about the scene in Oregon. We met through the project, when she invited me to do the photography. Her article is so beautiful and thoughtful, and it was super fun to be a photographer “on assignment” for a little bit.
